Have you ever felt stuck in your thinking or stuck emotionally? When we get stuck it’s difficult to think about new ideas or choose a new course of action for our lives. We get used to patterns of thinking. These patterns are created in our past, and they are usually a result of negative experiences. (Negative patterns are much more common than positive ones, it seems.)
We can break those patterns, however, once we know how to. But here’s the catch. If we knew how to break those patterns and do something new, why wouldn’t we? The fact is most of us don’t know how to break those patterns. In fact, most of us live our life on autopilot and don’t even realize we have patterns!
Albert Einstein once said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
One of the best ways to change our thinking is to introduce new ideas into our mind. That can be done by reading a book, watching a video, or seeking out a personal mentor, coach or counselor. However we do it, we need to seek out new ideas. (Reading books or watching videos full of ideas we already think or agree with isn’t really the best way to learn to think differently.)
